Gears Used In Car Transmissions

Posted by Admin | 14 Jan

In an automobile, gears are used in the transmission to change the speed of the wheels in relation to the engine's speed. Each gear has a different number of teeth, which determines its gear ratio. A toothed gear in an automobile transmission is a type of gear that has teeth on the circumference, which are used to engage with and transmit power to other gears.

There are several types of gears used in an automobile transmission:

Spur gears: These are the simplest type of gear, consisting of two parallel shafts with gears that have straight teeth. They are the most common gears found in transmission systems.

Helical gears: Helical gears have teeth that are angled to one another, causing them to make contact gradually, which results in smoother and quieter operations.

Bevel gears: Bevel gears are used to transmit power between shafts that are at 90 degrees to each other. They have teeth that are cut at an angle on a cone-shaped surface.

Worm gears: Worm gears consist of a worm and a worm wheel. The worm is a gear in the shape of a screw, and the worm wheel is a gear with teeth cut into its circumference. They are mainly used for high reduction ratios in a limited space.

Automobile gears are designed to handle high loads, and high speeds, and to last for a long time. They must also be made to very precise standards in order to work correctly. It is important to have proper gear lubrication to prolong their lifetime and to keep them working efficiently.
